Rhiwbina’s potent 1-2 punch of James Peach and Lewis Poole gave them an early lead but they were pegged back by impressive wins by Shunsaku Kariyazono and the ever-improving Amelie Haworth. It was left to Peter Berkley to ensure the bonus points returned to Wales as he dispatched Luke Howells 3-1. In a battle of the two Workout teams, it was the A team that came away with a 5-0 victory; coach John Welton outlasting pupil Kanhav Nanavati in a gruelling five-setter in the pick of the ties. Workout B fielded the supremely talented WR86 Yasshmita Jadishkumar on debut, but she was unlucky to lose out 3-1 to a dogged performance from Andy Lowe. Avon West maintained their unbeaten start to the season with a 4-1 victory at Redland B; Ameeshenraj Chandaran beating Jeremy Harris 3-1 after the first two games were shared. Welsh junior Ioan Sharpe was the only victor for Redland, showcasing his impressive array of talents in a comprehensive victory over Lukasz Marcinkowski. Redland A started off strongly at Lansdown with 3-0 victories for Adam Hughes and the newly svelte Harry Anderson. Lansdown levelled the tie thanks to strong performances by Antoine Riehl and debutant Chris Wood, and it was left to Jake Vickery to give Lansdown their first victory of the season in the decisive match, beating wily veteran Roger Camp 3-0.
